Difference between an Open Edition and a Limited Edition print in photogrpahy
In a limited edition, the number of an original photograph printed and sold is limited to a specific number (10, 20, 30, etc.). Once the total number of prints of the edition has been reached, the picture may not be printed anymore. These limited edition pictures also come with an authenticity certificate, signed by the artist, and mentions the number of the edition (3/20, etc.).
An open edition print has no limit on its run, this means it can be printed as many times as requested, therefore an open edition print is more affordable than a limited edition one.
